Tenerife’s Cabildo Launches Employment Program for 120 Unemployed Residents

The Cabildo of Tenerife has embarked on a transformative employment initiative designed to integrate 120 unemployed individuals into the workforce, marking a significant step towards enhancing the local economy and providing essential support to residents in need.

Inauguration of a New Employment Initiative

As part of the ambitious “Tenerife Advances with NOE 2025-2026” project, the recruitment process for this employment program has officially commenced. This initiative is spearheaded by the local government and falls under the umbrella of the New Employment Opportunities (NOE) program. The financial backing for this project comes from the Canary Islands Employment Service, with additional co-financing provided by the European Social Fund Plus. The launch event took place at the Nature and Archaeology Museum of Tenerife (MUNA), where key figures such as Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo, Efraín Medina, the Councillor for Employment and Education, and Juan Manuel Santana, the Insular Director of Human Resources, Public Service, and Digital Transformation, gathered to celebrate this important milestone.

Importance of the Employment Program

During the ceremony, Rosa Dávila emphasized the critical role of this program in fostering employment opportunities and ensuring a sustainable future for the island’s residents. She stated, “With Tenerife Advances with NOE, we continue to strive to provide real opportunities for training and employment to those who most need it.” This initiative is not solely focused on improving employability; it also aims to bolster the public services offered by the Cabildo, thereby contributing to a more equitable and sustainable Tenerife.

Dávila further elaborated on the program’s potential to harness young, qualified talent from the local community, integrating them into strategic projects that can generate significant social and economic value across the island. By investing in the workforce, the Cabildo is taking proactive steps to address unemployment and enhance the overall quality of life for its residents.

Program Structure and Participant Engagement

Efraín Medina expressed his enthusiasm for the 120 participants who will be joining the program, highlighting that their professional development is not just beneficial for them individually but will also contribute to the broader advancement of Tenerife. He stressed the importance of ensuring that participants have a rewarding experience throughout the one-year duration of the program, which is designed to equip them with valuable skills and knowledge.

Juan Manuel Santana reiterated the Cabildo’s unwavering commitment to promoting employment and facilitating the integration of individuals into the labor market. The total budget allocated for this initiative is €4.18 million, with €3.34 million derived from regional grants. The primary objective is to foster training-related employment and social-labor integration for the unemployed while simultaneously supporting the development of public-interest projects across various sectors of the Cabildo.

As of now, 106 individuals have officially been hired, with the remaining 14 expected to join the program shortly. The contracts are strategically distributed among 23 Action Units located within eleven councils and insular bodies, covering a wide array of fields, including culture, environment, youth, equality, innovation, social action, and economic development.

Roles and Responsibilities of Participants

The program is structured to facilitate the inclusion of 109 individuals in internships, alongside 11 professionals who will provide mentorship and technical support throughout the initiative. The hired participants will engage in a variety of roles for a duration of 12 months, while mentors will serve for an initial two-month period. Their responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of areas, including:

Key points

  • Cultural and Museums: Focus on the conservation and promotion of collections, ensuring that Tenerife’s rich heritage is preserved for future generations.
  • Natural Environment and Sustainability: Engage in vital environmental management, biodiversity conservation, and initiatives aimed at combating climate change.
  • Youth and Equality: Implement socio-educational programs and strategies designed to prevent violence and promote equality among young people.
  • Innovation and Economic Development: Support strategic projects that aim to revitalize and strengthen the island’s economic fabric, fostering growth and resilience.

This comprehensive approach not only aims to provide immediate employment opportunities but also seeks to cultivate a skilled workforce that can contribute to the long-term development and sustainability of Tenerife. By focusing on diverse sectors and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, the Cabildo is laying the groundwork for a more prosperous future for all residents.
