NGO Collaboration in Tenerife Set to Empower 630 Vulnerable Residents Through Job Creation

The Cabildo of Tenerife is embarking on a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing employment opportunities for 630 vulnerable individuals on the island. A significant emphasis is placed on women, who represent 56.5% of this targeted group, reflecting a commitment to gender equity in the workforce.

Strategic Investment in Employment Programs

In a bold move to foster economic growth and social inclusion, the Cabildo has allocated two million euros to support twelve non-profit organizations that rely on volunteer efforts. This financial backing is designed to facilitate innovative employment programs that focus on emerging sectors, such as sustainability, energy efficiency, and the blue economy. The blue economy is particularly noteworthy as it promotes the sustainable use of marine and coastal resources while ensuring environmental protection. Furthermore, the initiative will also encompass the green economy, which aims to reduce ecological footprints, and the orange economy, which integrates cultural and creative industries into the economic framework.

Comprehensive Training and Development Framework

A recent meeting brought together key figures, including the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, and the Minister of Employment, Education, and Youth, Efraín Medina, along with representatives from the participating organizations. During this gathering, plans were unveiled for a robust training program that will offer over 4,700 hours of instruction. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed, comprising 80% theoretical knowledge and 20% practical application, ensuring that participants gain both foundational understanding and hands-on experience.

The training initiatives will align closely with activities in both the blue and green economies, covering essential topics such as sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and the principles of the circular economy. Additionally, the programs will address energy efficiency across various sectors, including industry and construction. Participants will also receive training related to health services, new technologies, active tourism, and cultural engagement, thereby broadening their skill sets and enhancing their employability.

Focus on Vulnerable Groups in the Job Market

Among the 630 individuals targeted by these employment programs, a striking 85% belong to groups that face significant barriers to securing employment. This includes women who have experienced domestic violence, individuals with disabilities, long-term unemployed persons, migrants, those lacking prior work experience, and individuals over the age of 45. Notably, 60% of these participants possess academic qualifications, while 40% do not have formal education, highlighting the diverse backgrounds and needs of those involved.
