Güímar Council Poised to Finalize Urban Conservation Statutes
The Güímar Town Council is on the verge of finalizing the approval of the Urban Conservation Statutes for the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate, a significant step towards enhancing the region’s industrial framework.
Advancements in Urban Conservation Statutes Approval
The approval process for the Urban Conservation Statutes is currently underway at the Güímar Town Council, with a decisive Plenary Meeting scheduled for the 23rd. This meeting is expected to conclude the approval process, following the Candelaria Town Council’s endorsement on October 31. During that session, the statutes received backing from the PSOE, PP, and Vox parties, while the Unidas Sí Podemos group chose to abstain from voting. In a similar vein, the Arafo Town Council successfully completed its approval process in mid-November, marking a significant milestone in the initiative.
Local Authorities Rally Behind the Initiative
This initiative, driven by the Cabildo through the Ministry of Industry, has received robust support from the Insular Council, which granted its initial approval on October 29. As part of the process, the statutes are required to undergo a public exposure period in the municipalities of Candelaria, Arafo, and Güímar, allowing residents and stakeholders to engage with the proposed changes.
Financially, the Urban Conservation Entity will operate under a mixed funding model. The Cabildo, along with the respective town councils, will contribute 55% of the total budget, while the remaining 45% will be sourced from commitments made by local landowners. Insular Minister of Industry, Manuel Fernández, announced that the Cabildo will allocate an initial funding of €200,000, which will be further supplemented by €250,000 from the existing Mixed Association of the Industrial Estate, currently in the process of dissolution.
Expansion Plans for Güímar Industrial Estate
The slight delay in the approval of the statutes by the Güímar Town Council is not expected to significantly impact the overall timeline of the project. In parallel, the council has initiated plans to expand the Güímar Industrial Estate by an additional 300,000 square meters. This expansion is strategically targeted towards the mountain side of the South Motorway, specifically situated between the access to Arafo and the Socorro Bridge. The local government envisions this expansion as a means to create a new commercial zone, further enhancing the economic landscape of the region.
Insights into the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate
Spanning over two million square meters, the Valle de Güímar Industrial Estate stands as a vital industrial complex in Tenerife. The distribution of land within this estate is noteworthy: 17.72% (approximately 360,000 square meters) is located in Candelaria, 29.30% (around 600,000 square meters) in Güímar, and the largest portion, 52.98% (over one million square meters), is situated in Arafo. The establishment of an Urban Conservation Entity is anticipated for the upcoming year, which is expected to play a crucial role in the management and development of this significant industrial area.
Enhancements in the Barranco de Las Torres Industrial Area
In a related development, the Cabildo and the Adeje Town Council have entered into a collaborative agreement aimed at enhancing the Barranco de Las Torres Industrial Estate. Announced by Minister Manuel Fernández, this initiative will allocate over €1.5 million for various improvements, which include relocating tree pits, repairing sidewalks, and enhancing pedestrian access throughout the area.
Additional measures are set to be implemented, such as establishing a risk network for new tree pits, selecting vegetation with non-invasive root systems, and replacing existing public lighting with modern LED fixtures to reduce energy consumption. Furthermore, the water supply network will undergo partial replacement due to deterioration issues, ensuring improved reliability and safety for all users in the area.
