Tenerife’s Cabildo Takes Charge of Transport Services to Masca with Titsa
Beginning December 2, the Cabildo of Tenerife has officially assumed control of transport services to the picturesque Barranco de Masca, shifting management from the private company Alsa to the island’s public transport operator, Titsa. This significant transition marks a pivotal moment in the effort to enhance public transportation in the region, ensuring that it aligns more closely with the needs of both residents and visitors.
The decision to transfer management to Titsa is rooted in a commitment to improve operational efficiency and foster better coordination with local administrative bodies. The Cabildo aims to promote a sustainable mobility model that not only prioritizes the convenience of transport but also emphasizes the importance of environmental conservation in this ecologically sensitive area.
Transforming Access to Masca
As part of this transition, Titsa will implement upgrades to routes 355 and 462, which will operate from Wednesday to Saturday. These enhancements are designed to better manage access to Masca, a region renowned for its stunning natural beauty and unique ecological characteristics. Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, underscored the importance of this change, stating that it is essential for ensuring coherent and sustainable management of access to Masca, thereby reinforcing the protection of its natural values.
Blanca Pérez, the Natural Environment Councillor, also weighed in on the significance of this transition. She highlighted that active management in Masca is crucial, as it will facilitate a mobility model focused on both conservation and safety. This approach is expected to create a more organized and efficient transportation system that benefits everyone involved.
Furthermore, Eulalia García, the Mobility Councillor, pointed out that integrating the transport service into Titsa will lead to increased frequency of transport options. This enhancement is anticipated to improve safety and order for both residents and visitors, making it easier for everyone to access this beautiful area.
Boosting Frequency on Essential Routes
The 355 line, which connects the towns of Buenavista, Masca, and Santiago del Teide, will experience a significant increase in service frequency. An additional 17 trips in each direction will be added to accommodate the growing demand. Notably, priority will be given to passengers who present access tickets for the Barranco de Masca walking route, ensuring that those who wish to explore the natural beauty of the area have reliable transport options. However, remaining seats will also be available for the general public, allowing for a broader range of visitors to enjoy the scenic route.
In addition to the enhancements on the 355 line, the 462 line, which operates from Guía de Isora to Santiago del Teide and Los Gigantes, will also see expanded service. This line will now accommodate those who park in Santiago del Teide, trek through the Barranco de Masca route, and return by boat to Los Gigantes. New departures will be introduced from Santiago del Teide at 14:15 and 17:45, while return trips from Los Gigantes will be available at 13:30, 15:00, 17:00, and 18:30. Passengers on this line will similarly be prioritized based on their ticket for the walking route, ensuring a smooth and organized travel experience.
